Free financial counselling
A quiet voice in the money panic.
Financial counsellors are qualified professionals who work for not-for-profits and community services, not banks. Their help is free, confidential, and independent. They are one of the most under-used resources in Australia.
Call the National Debt Helpline
What a financial counsellor can do
- Help you understand your options after a death in the family
- Talk to banks, utilities and debt collectors on your behalf
- Help you negotiate hardship arrangements
- Explain your rights around deceased estate debts
- Guide you through Centrelink payments you may be entitled to
- Help you plan how to get through the next three months
What they cannot do
They are not financial advisers — they cannot recommend investments or products. They cannot give legal advice. But for untangling debt, hardship, Centrelink and bills, they are exceptional and free.
